Powering the 4600 is the Pentium 4 2.8
GHz CPU with 800 MHz bus speed.
This is middle of the road for
processors in this segment. Matched up
with the
CPU is 512MB of PC3200 memory which
should compliment the performance.
Storage has received a significant boost
over previous versions. Storage still
remains at the standard 80GB hard drive,
but the optical drive has been boosted
to an 8x DVD+RW drive. It would be nice
to see a multiformat drive, but at least
it is a fast drive. Also included is a
16x DVD-ROM drive. The multimedia
capabilities of the 4600 has been greatly
improved. At the heart of this is the
ATI
All-In-Wonder Radeon 9000 and Windows XP
Media Center OS. This allows the
4600 to operating as a television and
video recorder. The drawback though is
that the 4600 was not designed as a home
theatre PC. As a result, this system
shouldn't be placed in a home theatre
environment, but it does make it useful
for transferring home videos to DVD.
Audio is supplied by the popular Audigy
2
soundcard matched up with Dell 5.1
surround speakers.
